Earth’s Moon shared the eastern sky with the Pleiades, the Seven Sisters, as seen from Alberta, Canada, shown as the naked eye would see it.

I looked up The Pleiades after and learned the name comes from Greek mythology, where they were imagined as seven sisters placed in the sky by Zeus. Across cultures, people noticed that about six or seven stars stand out to the naked eye, so the story and the name stuck.

Humans used this to track seasons, to move, to decide. To stay connected to Time.

Time has always felt like something I’m chasing. Or measuring. Or trying to get ahead of.

Can you relate?

Honestly, it might be my least favorite marker on the planet.

But this year really feels different.

Maybe it’s everything happening around us. Maybe it’s the way this year is being talked about, as a turning point, a marker.

2026 is a big year!

The 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. Three Friday the 13ths. The Year of the Fire Horse. A cycle tied to intensity, movement, and change that only comes around every 60 years. Hell, it’s the first time we’ve seen the Year of the Fire Horse this century.

Or maybe it’s simpler than that.

Maybe I’m just paying attention in a different way.

Because the truth is, I’m moving slower now. More deliberate.

There was a time when everything felt faster. Fuller. And I was always onto the next thing.

Now I’m noticing what I would have missed.

On 2/22, that pattern made me pause because it interrupted me long enough to ask: Am I actually here right now?

In numerology, 222 is often associated with alignment.

Patterns don’t have to be magical to be meaningful.

They just have to make you stop long enough to notice and pay attention.

We say time is speeding up. There are many names for that feeling (time compression, subjective acceleration of time, Terence McKenna’s novelty theory, etc.).

But what we might actually be losing are our markers, the moments that help us locate ourselves in time.

The small moments that let us say:

I AM HERE.

And maybe that’s the part I’ve been missing.

1 Question

What are we continuing as a culture that no longer serves us?

1 Challenge

For the next month, track one pattern.

A number. A phrase. A moment that repeats.

When you notice it, pause.

Ask: What is this asking me to pay attention to?

Write one sentence. Then share it with someone you love and tell them what it means to you.

Three ⚡️ in 31 Seconds

⚡️ Alignment begins the moment you notice where you are.

⚡️ The Singers won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 2026, tying with Two People Exchanging Saliva, after earning 35 awards across 50 film festivals in 2025. Not just my health. Not just my pace. It transformed how I measure life.

Before 2022, I measured life by achievement: deadlines met, goals crushed, boxes checked. I ran on adrenaline, ambition, and the quiet pressure to always be “on.”

But when your heart literally stops, your life does too. And when it starts again, so do your questions.

What really counts?

What’s worth my energy?

What matters now?

Since then, I’ve been measuring my life differently. Not by how fast I move, but by how present I am. Not by what I achieve in public, but by how I live in private.

Today—my birthday—I woke up with gratitude. I took my meds. I ate some fruit. I sipped coffee beside Dave, my husband, in the rarest kind of quiet—the kind that feels like home. The kids were at school. The house was still.

And in that stillness, I felt rich beyond measure.

We left the house for lunch, walked slowly through town, browsed stores without a plan. I picked out clothes for the boys.

Dave surprised me with something unexpected: my first stone paper journal. Smooth. Waterproof. No bleaches or acids. Nearly impossible to tear. Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is to give ourselves permission not to push forward at full speed—but instead, to gather strength for what’s ahead.

Because let’s be real: The world isn’t getting any easier. The systems and structures we wish were different still stand. The challenges we face—personally and collectively—are still here. And yet, even in the midst of it all, we have a choice.

Hope.

Not the fleeting, feel-good kind.

Not the passive kind that waits for someone else to fix things.

But hope as a discipline.

Hope as a daily practice. Hope as an intentional act of defiance against despair.

"Hope doesn’t preclude feeling sadness or frustration or anger or any other emotion that makes total sense. Hope isn’t an emotion, you know? Hope is not optimism. Hope is a discipline… we have to practice it every single day."

— Mariame Kaba

Hope is a discipline because it requires work. It means making a habit of looking for possibility, even when everything around us feels stuck. It’s not about ignoring reality—it’s about choosing to engage with it from a place of agency rather than defeat.

Why This Matters in Hard Times

There are systems and structures around us that we wish were different. There are personal battles we fight every day. And while our perspective alone may not change the world overnight, it does shape how we navigate it. Hope as a discipline reminds us that:

We can feel anger, grief, and exhaustion and still act with purpose. Feeling deeply doesn’t mean we’re weak. It means we’re human. And hope is what keeps us moving even in the face of that pain.

We don’t have to have the answers to keep going. Sometimes hope is simply taking the next right step, even when the full path isn’t clear.

Our daily choices build resilience. The way we choose to engage with life today—whether that’s through setting boundaries, speaking up, or simply getting out of bed—adds up over time.

Hope as a discipline is what allows us to keep showing up. To keep building. To keep believing in possibility even when the evidence isn’t obvious.

Me Power and the Discipline of Hope

At the core of Me Power is the belief that, while we may not control the world around us, we do control how we show up in it.

Our perspective alone may not dismantle oppressive structures overnight, but it can shape the way we navigate them.

Our ability to hold onto hope—especially in trying times—fuels our ability to act, to resist, to build, and to create something different.

Hope as a discipline means:

Embracing barriers without letting them define us

Focusing on our strengths rather than only our struggles

Speaking for our lives, even when the world isn’t listening

Choosing our guides wisely—because who we surround ourselves with matters

Ritualizing reflection, so we don’t lose sight of our growth

Three ⚡️ in 31 Seconds

⚡️This skips to 1:32:30 for the final 7 minutes of something truly special—an EXPERIENCE, not just a performance. She was my 7th grade Honors English teacher at Castle Park Middle School in Chula Vista, CA, and at the time, I was a nerdy, awkward new kid—completely devoid of hope. But Ms. Bolles saw something in me. She didn’t just nurture my love for reading—she challenged me to see just how much I could read every month. One month, I hit 50 books, and that year became my best year of reading ever—a book a day! Now, as she wraps up her final year of teaching, let’s send her off with the celebration she deserves. Vote for Heather Bolles and honor the impact she’s had on so many students like me.
<p class="button-wrapper" data-attrs="{"url":"https://americasfavteacher.org/2025/heather-bolles","text":"VOTE FOR MS. The Barrier Check-In → What feels hard or heavy right now?
Take a deep breath. Name the challenge you’re facing. Write about it in detail—what’s happening, how it’s affecting you, and any emotions you’re carrying. This is a space for honesty.

2. The Perspective Shift → What is one small thing within my control today?
Not everything is within your power, and that’s okay. But what is? Identify one action, decision, or mindset shift you do have control over. Even if it’s small, write it down.

3. The Strength Spotlight → What strength do I already have that can help me navigate this?
Think about past challenges you’ve overcome. What qualities, skills, or inner resources helped you then? How can you apply those same strengths now? Write about a time when you used this strength successfully.

4. The Guided Action → What’s one tangible step I can take today to move forward, even if it’s small?
Hope isn’t passive—it moves. Identify a single action you can take today, no matter how minor, that brings you one step closer to progress. This could be a conversation, a boundary you set, a self-care practice, or even just changing your perspective.

5. The Future Seed → What’s one thing I’m looking forward to, no matter how small?
Even in difficult times, there are things worth anticipating. Maybe it’s a conversation with a friend, a sunrise, a book you want to read, or a goal you’re working toward. Write about something that brings even the smallest spark of excitement or comfort.

Share The 3-31 by Dr. Adams

Ending the Year on a High Note

This year has been full of milestones, celebrations, and the kind of connections that remind us why life is so beautiful.

LaNysha Adams, PhD

This year has been full of milestones, celebrations, and the kind of connections that remind us why life is so beautiful. One of the brightest highlights has been my "sistar" Krista’s wedding journey, a connective thread that has woven joy, laughter, and awe into this season of life.

When I look back on the whirlwind of Krista's wedding prep—planning the bachelorette party, attending wedding showers, and getting all the details just right—it was already clear that we were creating unforgettable memories. But none of us could have imagined how monumental it would all become.

Thanks for reading The 3-31 by Dr. Adams! Even the rain added a touch of cinematic charm to the day, as if the universe wanted to sprinkle a little extra drama and beauty on the festivities.

But the real jaw-dropper?

Krista’s wedding didn’t just stay in our cherished memories or our social media posts—it caught the attention of Vogue Magazine. Yes, Vogue.

Reflecting on this journey, I realize it’s not just about the glitz and glamour of a Vogue feature (though, let’s be honest, that’s incredible). It’s about how this year has been a series of moments tied together by the power of connection. From late-night chats to coordinating logistics, from shared laughs to silent tears, every step of Krista’s wedding adventure reminded me of the beauty of showing up for the people we love.

Krista’s wedding feels like the perfect metaphor for how this year has unfolded: rich with unexpected blessings, elevated by love, and made unforgettable by the people who surrounded me. Thank you!

❤️❤️❤️

Ending the year on this high note feels like an affirmation—a reminder to embrace the wonder that happens when you say “yes” to life, to love, and to the possibility that the next moment might just be Vogue-worthy, too.

As I step into the new year, this is the energy I’m carrying forward: celebrating the highs, cherishing the connections, and staying open to the idea that magic is always just around the corner. Here’s to more moments that make us feel alive, connected, and truly seen. 💫

What a way to close the chapter on this incredible year.

Three ⚡️ in 31 Seconds

⚡️I’m proud of my team and the work we’ve done with the food pantry. but she’s every bit a sister in my heart and life. We’ve known each other since she was 8 years old, and I’ve had the privilege of watching her grow up, navigating the ups and downs of life with her by my side.

Our bond was forged in those early years when I’d pick her up from school, a ritual that became our own little tradition. We’d grab bagels, crank up the volume on some hip-hop, and just enjoy the simple joy of those moments. It was more than just an after-school routine—it was our time to connect, to share, and to create memories that still make us smile.

We even volunteered together at StandUp for Kids when she was in high school, an experience that solidified our shared values and deepened our bond. Working side by side, we learned the power of giving back and supporting others, and it was clear that, despite our age difference, Krista was mature beyond her years, with a heart full of compassion and a fierce determination to make a difference.

Our connection transcends blood—it’s built on years of shared experiences, inside jokes, and those moments that define what it means to be truly close to someone. Krista will always be like a sister to me, and I’m grateful every day for the unique bond we share.

We’re all so excited and deep into the preparations for Krista’s big day. The bachelorette party was lit. I mean, two nights of staying up until 6 AM, dancing, laughing, and making memories that will last a lifetime. Hanging out with a group of young, vibrant people had me feeling like I was back in my 20s again—until I tried to recover. Spoiler alert: it took weeks to get back to normal! I learned that my party stamina isn’t quite what it used to be, but it was worth every sleepless night.

Me Power Happenings

In the midst of all the excitement, the new school year kicked off. With a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old, the demands of school and after-school activities like swim lessons and soccer have completely taken over our schedule. I’ve been doing the daily juggle of drop-offs, pick-ups, snack packing, and cheering on the sidelines. It’s a beautiful chaos, but it’s also a reminder that my time and energy are limited resources.

Photo source: my iPhone, from left to right Donovan (4), then Davidson (6)

The last few months have given me a lot to think about, and I’ve had to confront some hard truths about my goals and priorities. I’ve realized that the pace I’ve been keeping—saying “yes” to almost every opportunity, every project—just isn’t sustainable. It’s been a process of re-aligning my actions with what truly matters to me right now, and that clarity has been both challenging and liberating.

As a mom, my focus has shifted now that my boys are older and more independent. One goal is to help them master swimming, not just as a skill but possibly as a sport if they’re interested. I’m also encouraging them to try new activities and take safe risks—whether it’s exploring a new sport, venturing into nature, or diving into creative pursuits. It’s all about nurturing their curiosity and resilience, and teaching them that growth often comes from stepping outside their comfort zones.

Professionally, my role as the Director of Student Wellness at the Santa Fe Community College is at the forefront of my mind. I’m passionate about expanding the Student Wellness Center, making it a true hub of support and resources for our students. Fundraising for the food pantry is a top priority, ensuring that no student goes hungry or struggles to find basic necessities. So many students and community members don’t know what’s available to them, and I’m determined to change that. We have incredible support systems in place, and I want to make sure people know how to access them and feel empowered to do so.

All of these goals—whether personal, professional, or entrepreneurial—are about aligning my life with what matters most right now.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" here’s what I’m saying “yes” to:

Local or Accessible Speaking Opportunities: Like the Annual Women In Business Conference (see above), where I had the privilege of speaking on a beautifully moderated panel. It felt more like a meaningful conversation with the audience than a traditional panel, with Q&A seamlessly woven into the discussion in a way I’ve never experienced before. For more on this event, check out the feature in The New Mexican.

Making Time for Writing and Reading: I’m carving out dedicated time to focus on my second book. It’s time to get serious about my book proposal, especially since I’ve changed the focus of my topic far too many times. This is a big priority for me, and I’m committed to moving forward.

Expanding My Online Presence: Social media has become such an important way for people to get a sense of who I am before we ever meet face-to-face. It’s like a virtual handshake! It helps me share my story and expertise, so when potential clients see my content, they already feel more comfortable and confident about booking me for speaking engagements.

Connecting Over Coffee or Tea: I’m embracing the chance to meet with friends and new acquaintances, like former Secret Service Agent Dr. Mary Beth Janke, to discuss business, marketing, favorite restaurants, and everything in between. These conversations are invaluable for inspiration and collaboration.

For now, these are the opportunities I’m focusing on as I align my actions with my goals and the life I want to create. Of course, this will change—because, let’s be honest, my to-do list has more plot twists than your favorite show on Netflix!

It feels like I’m constantly relearning how to prioritize, set new boundaries, and be even more intentional with my time.

So that’s where I’ve been—celebrating, reflecting, and recalibrating.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as I navigated this busy season.

I’m excited to be back, with a renewed sense of purpose and focus, ready to share more insights and inspiration with you all.

Three ⚡️ in 31 Seconds

⚡️What about you, dear reader? Are the goals you’re setting aligned with the life you want to create? How are you celebrating, reflecting, AND recalibrating?

⚡️RSVP for this Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce event I’m leading as part of their “Women Empower Series” on October 9, 2024, from 4 pm to 6 pm.

RSVP

⚡️Here are my top strategies that can help prioritize and protect your energy when life feels overwhelming:

Time Blocking: Allocate specific blocks of time for focused work, meetings, and personal activities. Use a timer or an app to ensure you stick to your time blocks and take breaks.

Phone a Friend: Reach out to friends and/or family for advice, support, or just to talk things through. Sometimes, sharing your struggles can help you gain perspective and find solutions.

Use the 2-Minute Rule: If a task can be completed in two minutes or less, do it immediately. This prevents small tasks from piling up and becoming overwhelming.

Thanks for reading The 3-31 by Dr. Adams! The research foundation for why we default to thinking about what we might add instead of what we might remove is quite interesting. When people face problems or tasks that can be changed, they usually prefer to add new things rather than remove existing ones. This preference for adding things happens because it's easier and more straightforward mentally. People naturally go for adding because it's more obvious and requires less mental effort compared to thinking about what can be removed.

Behind the Scenes of My TEDx Talk: The Real Story

"How was it?"

LaNysha Adams, PhD

"How was it?"

That's the question I've been hearing non-stop since my TEDx talk. I introduced the concept of "Radical Interrogation," urging us all to look beyond the labels that society imposes on us.

But let's talk about the reality of preparing for and delivering a TEDx talk. It's nerve-wracking, to say the least. The pressure, the anticipation, the fear of not delivering your message as powerfully as you envision... It's all there, lurking beneath the surface.

TEDx talks are often portrayed as these glamorous, life-changing events where speakers take to the stage to share their wisdom with the world. But let me tell you, the reality behind the scenes is often far from glamorous. Here's a breakdown of what really happened during my TEDx talk at the sprawling 200 million square foot space of Bell Works.

7:00 AM: I showed up bright and early, full of nervous energy and excitement. The day was supposed to start with a hearty breakfast to fuel us for the day ahead. However, when I arrived, all they had to offer was cookies and coffee.

Complaints arose, and eventually, they brought in some fruit and donuts, but it wasn't exactly the nutritious breakfast we were hoping for.

Throughout the day, all the speakers were crammed into one green room. There was barely enough space for everyone, and it was challenging to find a quiet corner to gather our thoughts and remain calm before going on stage.

I was scheduled to speak second to last, which meant I didn't go on until 4:30 PM. By that point, my energy was waning, and all I could think about was taking a nap right before I hit the stage. 😂

Despite the less-than-ideal circumstances, I did my best to stay focused and deliver my talk with passion and conviction. But let me tell you, behind the glamour of the TEDx stage, there’s a lot of chaos and discomfort that often goes unnoticed.

So, the next time you watch a TEDx talk and marvel at the speaker's eloquence and poise, remember that there's a whole lot happening behind the scenes that you don't see.

Me Power Moments

I know four friends who have recently overcome breast cancer, facing it with unwavering courage, strength, and the support of a positive community that had no doubt they would emerge victorious.

These remarkable women embody Me Power in action. I was scheduled to board a flight to Los Angeles for a quick weekend getaway—a chance to see family and friends ahead of my birthday and embrace the allure of the West Coast. The anticipation was palpable, each minute ticking by with agonizing slowness until the moment we'd soar into the skies.

But fate had other plans, ones tinged with danger and uncertainty.

As the final call to board echoed through the terminal, I joined the queue of eager passengers, mentally preparing for the adventure ahead. However, just as I reached the jet bridge, a deafening clap of thunder shattered the air, followed by blinding flashes of lightning that streaked across the darkened sky. Panic surged through the crowd as we watched in horror as a bolt of electricity struck the plane poised on the tarmac—a sight that left me frozen in disbelief.

In that heart-stopping moment, the world seemed to stand still, the crackle of electricity mingling with the frantic shouts of passengers and airport personnel. I couldn't tear my gaze away from the aircraft, fearing the worst—a catastrophe unfolding before my very eyes.

Yet, amidst the chaos, a glimmer of hope emerged—a testament to human ingenuity and the resilience of modern technology. You see, planes are meticulously designed to withstand the forces of nature, including the formidable power of lightning strikes. With reinforced materials and sophisticated engineering, they serve as formidable shields against the elements, ensuring the safety of those on board even in the face of adversity.

As the initial shock began to subside, a wave of gratitude washed over me—gratitude for the unwavering dedication of the aviation industry to prioritize passenger safety above all else. Though shaken by the close encounter with nature's fury, I found solace in the knowledge that I was in capable hands, surrounded by professionals who possessed the expertise to navigate through the storm unscathed.

Reflecting on the harrowing ordeal, I couldn't help but draw parallels to the principles of Me Power—a reminder that even in the darkest of moments, we possess the inner strength to persevere. Just as the plane stood firm against the onslaught of lightning, so too can we weather life's challenges with resilience and determination. In the face of adversity, we have the power to rise above, to embrace our barriers and emerge stronger than ever before.

And so, with a renewed sense of purpose, I boarded a much later flight to Los Angeles, carrying with me the lessons learned from the turbulent skies. For in the end, it is not the storms we encounter that define us, but rather how we harness our inner power to navigate through them, unyielding in our pursuit of a brighter tomorrow.

TEDx

I’m still in the pinch me phase of being selected for a TEDx at one of the largest and longest-running TEDx conferences on the East coast. "You won't have to go to the back of the line if you stand here and talk to me."

I turned around to discover a woman exuding style in her all-black attire, her smile radiating warmth, and her eyes dancing with mischief. Aileen, she introduced herself, and just like that, we became unlikely companions in the chaos of travel.

Thanks for reading The 3-31 by Dr. Adams! Despite the inconvenience, Aileen's cheerful chatter kept my spirits up. Little did I know, this chance encounter would lead to an unforgettable experience.

Finally, it was announced that the flight was canceled, and passengers were instructed to disembark. As I made my way through the crowded airport, already planning my next steps, I spotted Aileen sitting alone, looking bewildered. Without hesitation, I approached her and offered my assistance.

After explaining the situation and assessing our options, I called the airline to rebook her on my later flight. Aileen's gratitude was palpable as she thanked me profusely. With a smile, I invited her to join me at the lounge, where we could wait comfortably.

As we sat together, enjoying snacks and conversation, Aileen's infectious laughter filled the air. Despite the age gap, we connected effortlessly, sharing stories and jokes like old friends. It was as if we had known each other for years.

Throughout our time together, Aileen affectionately referred to me as "Mom," (she was 75 and a mother of two, grandmother of one) a humorous reminder of our unlikely bond. We roamed the Houston airport like a pair of mischievous teenagers, exploring every corner on the longest route to find the United Lounge and making memories along the way.

As the hours ticked by, I couldn't help but wonder if Aileen would remember our time together. With dementia clouding her memory, our encounter was a fleeting moment in the grand scheme of things. But for me, it was a reminder of the beauty in unexpected connections and the joy of making a difference, however small, in someone's life.

Eventually, the time came for us to part ways 12 hours later when we landed in Orlando. With a hug and a promise to stay in touch, I watched as Aileen disappeared into the crowd, her spirit shining bright despite the challenges she faced.

As I boarded my shuttle to the largest Marriott in the world, I couldn't help but smile, knowing that our paths had crossed for a reason. In a world filled with uncertainty, Aileen had taught me the power of kindness, laughter, and human connection even when things are chaotic.

Me Power in the Media

The audiobook is officially available for sale! started with a chilling call from the ICU. As I answered that call on Monday at 9:55 AM, I found myself grappling with the enormity of what had transpired. It was a surreal moment, prompting me to pause and delve into the profound significance of the journey that has unfolded since. This anniversary is not just a numerical milestone; it's a testament to the transformative power embedded in our ability to overcome, learn, and evolve.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a medical emergency that occurs when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating effectively. This cessation of the heart's pumping action prevents blood from flowing to vital organs and tissues. Without prompt intervention, SCA can quickly lead to unconsciousness and death. Immediate treatment, typically involving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), is crucial to restoring the heart's normal rhythm and improving the chances of survival.

It's fascinating how a single moment can carry such weight, prompting a double take and encouraging a deeper exploration of the significance woven into the fabric of our lives. As I reflect on this milestone, I'm reminded that significance lies not only in the events themselves but in our capacity to glean wisdom, strength, and meaning from them.

Every year, as the calendar turns towards January 29, I'm confronted with a mix of emotions. On that fateful day in 2022, my heart ceased its rhythm, plunging me into the depths of the unimaginable. My husband Dave, my hero, revived me with CPR, setting in motion a series of events that would redefine our lives.

Thanks for reading The 3-31 by Dr. Adams! SCA and heart attacks are NOT synonymous. A heart attack, however, is related to a blockage in the coronary arteries, resulting in reduced blood flow to a portion of the heart muscle, causing damage to the tissue. SCA often occurs suddenly without warning, while a heart attack may be preceded by symptoms like chest pain and discomfort.

For six long days, I lingered in a coma within the confines of the ICU. It was a battle against time, a struggle between life and the unknown. And then, on the other side of that darkness, I woke up in the hospital—a survivor, a testament to (Our) Me Power.

Yet, as I approach the anniversary of this life-altering event, a question lingers: what should I celebrate? Is it the day I awoke from the coma, the moment I stepped out of the hospital, or the entirety of this transformative experience?

In the throes of such uncertainty, I find solace in reflecting on the empathy that carried me through. Empathy, not only from my husband but from the healthcare professionals who tirelessly worked to bring me back to life. Empathy, not just from those who witnessed my struggle, but from the internal dialogue that guided me during those dark moments.

As we navigate the Leap Year, it becomes a metaphor for the leaps we take in life—some planned, others thrust upon us. The journey of celebrating milestones after a brush with mortality is nuanced, requiring a delicate balance of remembrance and gratitude.

So, here's to celebrating it all—the awakening, the hospital exit, and the intricate dance between life and the unknown. In the tapestry of our existence, each thread, no matter how challenging, contributes to the beautiful mosaic of resilience and appreciation for the gift of life.

Me Power Updates

I am beyond thrilled to share a momentous update with you all – the upcoming release of the Me Power audiobook! We rely on it daily, trusting it to be the silent ally that propels us through tasks, work, and sometimes even adventures. But what happens when that trust is suddenly shattered?

On Tuesday, November 14th, it was an ordinary evening, with the soft hum of the computer fan accompanying my work. Just as I was about to delve deeper into revamping my slides for a Keynote talk this Friday, my Macbook screen flickered and then... darkness. It felt like a cinematic pause, the kind that fills you with a sinking feeling, realizing that something just went horribly wrong.

Thanks for reading The 3-31 by Dr. Adams! Thoughts race, and a million “what ifs” flood the mind. Yet, amid this chaos, there's a strange clarity that emerges—the realization that sometimes, things just don't work out as planned.

For a moment, it's easy to feel defeated, to dwell on the inconvenience and the setback. But perhaps there’s a different story hidden within these moments of malfunction—a narrative not of failure, but of opportunity.

Within every setback lies a seed of opportunity waiting to germinate. It's the chance to recalibrate, to explore uncharted paths, and to unearth reservoirs of resilience we never knew existed. As the dust settled from the computer chaos, a new perspective emerged—one steeped in the ethos of "Focus on Your Strengths."

Focusing on strengths doesn't negate the reality of challenges; rather, it emphasizes leveraging our inner resources to navigate through the storms. My strength wasn't merely in the functioning of a device; it lay in adaptability, problem-solving, and the ability to extract meaning from chaos.

My computer remains unfixed, a dormant piece of technology that has chosen a hiatus from functionality. As my computer rests in its dormant state, it serves as a poignant reminder—an emblem that Our Me Power lies not just in the functioning of machines but in the indomitable human spirit, which thrives even amidst technical malfunctions and unforeseen challenges.

<picture></picture>

<g>

</g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

I’m so excited for the WE Business Conference, tomorrow! In the ever-evolving journey of self-empowerment, change is a constant companion.

I wanted to take a moment to share some book updates and insights, focusing on a universal theme that has played a significant role in my life recently: discomfort.

Change is inevitable, and feelings of discomfort often accompany it. Over the past year, I've experienced transformative shifts and challenges that have reminded me of the power of embracing discomfort as a catalyst for growth and positive change.

Here are 5 key lessons I've learned:

Embrace Your Barriers: It's easy to shy away from discomfort, but by embracing it, we can learn valuable lessons about ourselves and our potential. When we confront our barriers head-on, we discover new strengths and resilience we didn't know we possessed.

Focus on Your Strengths: In times of discomfort, we tend to be more attuned to our weaknesses. However, it's equally important to recognize and nurture our strengths. They are our guiding lights during moments of uncertainty.

Speak for Your Life: Don't be afraid to voice your thoughts and concerns during challenging times. Sharing your experiences and seeking support can be immensely empowering and therapeutic.

Choose Your Guide(s): Seek mentors, friends, or resources to help you navigate the discomfort. It's important to remember that you don't have to face adversity alone.

Ritualize Your Reflection: Regularly reflecting on your experiences, especially when discomfort arises, can lead to profound personal growth. Use this as an opportunity to assess your journey and make course corrections if needed.

As we continue to evolve and adapt to life's twists and turns, discomfort is not an obstacle to our personal growth but a stepping stone towards it. Our ability to embrace discomfort is a testament to our strength and resilience. And, ME POWER!

I would love to hear from you. How have you navigated discomfort in your life? What insights and wisdom have you gained from these experiences? Feel free to share your thoughts, stories, and strategies with me.

Remember, together, we can unlock our limitless power of positive change. Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey, and let's continue to embrace discomfort, learn, and rise stronger.

Me Power Book Updates

Me Power turns 1! 🎉🎉🎉

The inaugural "Bookaversary" was on September 22, commemorating the ebook's release. Embracing discomfort and conquering barriers is like embarking on a personal #75HardChallenge in life's journey. The #75HardChallenge consists of 5 daily tasks that must be done every day for 75 days straight. The tasks are:

Follow a diet of your own choosing, but no alcohol or cheat meals.

Complete two 45-minute workouts: 1 of these workouts must be outside.

Drink 4L of water every day.

Read 10 pages of a nonfiction book.

Take a progress picture every day.

Just as this challenge demands dedication and unwavering commitment for 75 days, our paths to growth and empowerment require resilience and determination. It's a reminder that within the year's limited days, we can confront our barriers head-on, step out of our comfort zones, and emerge stronger, wiser, and more empowered than ever. So, let's take each day as an opportunity to conquer challenges, embrace the discomfort, and rewrite our stories with courage and determination.

⚡️ What’s left for you to accomplish in 2023?

⚡️ Experience the enchantment of New Mexico's annual Balloon Fiesta in just 1 minute! Watch the magic unfold.

Embrace Every Moment Because Life Is Too Short to Waste

Life is a precious gift, yet it often seems to pass by in the blink of an eye.

LaNysha Adams, PhD

Life is a precious gift, yet it often seems to pass by in the blink of an eye.

We get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily routines, chasing goals and dreams, sometimes forgetting to savor the beauty of the present moment. It slips through our fingers like grains of sand, impossible to hold onto. One moment, we're celebrating a birthday, and the next, we're reminiscing about our youth. Life's brevity reminds us to cherish every moment, for we can never get them back.

2) Pursuing Passion and Purpose:

Life's short duration compels us to pursue our passions and find our purpose. It urges us to ask questions like, "What truly makes me happy?" and "What legacy do I want to leave behind?" Embracing our passions and purpose not only brings fulfillment but also ensures that we make the most of the time we have.

3) Building and Strengthening Relationships:

One of life's most significant joys comes from the relationships we form with family, friends, and loved ones. Yet, it's easy to take these connections for granted in the rush of daily life. Recognizing the shortness of life should inspire us to nurture and strengthen these bonds, creating lasting memories and meaningful connections.

This week, I had the privilege of visiting Golden, Colorado. As I've been in the eye of the storm of relocating my life to a place that couldn't be more different from what we've known (in a good way), I've come to appreciate the parallels between this change and the emotional voyage that accompanies a new health diagnosis. Beyond the logistical intricacies, the daunting task of uprooting from familiar surroundings and immersing oneself into the unknown can trigger a wave of emotions that rival the torrent of feelings that come with a fresh health prognosis.

You see, much like facing a new health condition, moving evokes a symphony of emotions. There's excitement, certainly, as you embrace the prospect of a new beginning. Yet, there's also the anxiety of navigating uncharted territory, of learning to acclimate to an unfamiliar environment, just like adjusting to the unfamiliar landscape of a changed health journey. The complex choreography of orchestrating the move and finding your bearings parallels the labyrinthine maze of medical appointments, treatments, and lifestyle adjustments that follow a diagnosis.

In the midst of this tumultuous transition, I've found myself drawing parallels between moving and my personal journey with a heart condition. Both demand an acknowledgment of the stress, seeking solace in the support of loved ones, and nurturing self-compassion. Just as moving has kept me from my writing desk, my heart condition has ushered in moments of introspection and resilience that I could have never anticipated.

TALK ABOUT ME POWER!

How will you: Embrace Your Barriers, Focus on Your Strengths, Speak for Your Life, Choose Your Guide(s), and Ritualize Your Reflection?

123 Days Left in 2023

So, why have I been absent? Well, I've been entwined in the intricate dance of transitioning my life and family to a new chapter, just as I've embraced a renewed chapter in managing my health. In between moving across the country, I finished recording the audiobook version of Me Power, and gave quite a few speaking talks about Me Power online and in person at the Creativity Conference, Los Alamos National Labs, and the Society for the Study of Social Problem’s Annual Conference.

I want to share with you what I learned while I was away. These uncomfortable conversations bring to mind a story I heard in my youth about eagles and how discomfort fosters growth. To construct their nests, eagles search for strong branches and sturdy twigs as the foundation. Then, they layer the nest with feathers, leaves, and other materials to ensure comfort. However, when the time comes for the chicks to learn to fly, the mother eagle gradually removes all the soft materials, making the nest uncomfortable. It is in this state of discomfort that the chicks are encouraged to leave the nest and soar. intentional actions, and a commitment to joyous and fun acts are prerequisites for Me Power.

If we can take small, consistent steps over time, then we can and WILL do anything!

Here are the top five things I do in order to make Me Power an ingrained part of my daily life:

Celebrate the small wins. Instead of focusing only on the big picture of goals, take a moment to celebrate the small moments of progress along the journey. It's easy to lose sight of those small wins when they're overshadowed by the bigger task at hand, but they're still just as important.

Garnish life with small doses of joy whenever possible to keep my spirits up. The intense joyous feeling can come from the smallest things, such as:

drinking out of one of my favorite mugs that says “Manifest that SHIT!” (thank you, Lazz);

dancing to Whitney Houston with my youngest son, Donovan, while I help him jump on the bed;

standing in the sun, feeling the rays and Vitamin D course through my body;

laughing so hard my stomach hurts.

Spend at least 10 minutes every day in silence to connect with my self and to create the space to activate more Me Power. The first step to creating a world where every person is given the right to be heard is to silence the noise that is constantly bombarding us. Support includes family, friends, or communities who can provide encouragement, motivation, and belonging.

⚡️ “Self-knowledge is the gateway to Me Power. In fact, it is with self-knowledge that we understand the dual network of brain and heart functions as a single regulator of the body. Yet, the heart is the center of all knowledge of self. When we think about self-knowledge, we tend to think of our brains, designed to interpret data from our senses and create meaning from it. But I want to emphasize the heart, the true master organ in our bodies” (Adams, 2022, Me Power conclusion).

⚡️ The difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day? Veteran's Day commemorates and celebrates all of those who have severed in the U.S. Armed Forces, while Memorial Day is a day to remember and honor the men and women who have been killed in U.S. wars throughout history. It's also about recognizing the whole community and remembering the people who have sacrificed for our country, even if they did not pass during wartime. An unknown Black History component to the holiday is also often overlooked.

Thanks for reading The 3-31 by Dr. Adams! It's also easy to get caught up in the frenzy of trying to push through thousands of people on their way to grab a book. But once you take a moment to realize what the festival is about, it's impossible not to feel inspired by it.

You’ve got to love a city with an entire festival devoted to books! All over the world, on April 23rd, or World Book and Copyright Day or International Day of the Book, people celebrate to promote the enjoyment of books and reading.

In the video, you’ll see I was the first author featured to discuss Me Power after Kensington Mayor Tracey Furman greeted attendees and Isidre Sala, head of the Catalonia delegation to the U.S., discussed the history behind the Day of the Book.

Since the 15th century, Catalan’s most romantic day of the year has been on April 23rd, also the feast day of Sant Jordi or Saint George. As legend has it, the dragon kept a princess hostage, and Saint George killed the dragon with a lance while riding a white horse and freed the princess. After being killed, the dragon’s blood turned into roses as soon as it touched the floor. Contrary to popular traditions, Saint George did not marry the princess.

Traditionally, on Sant Jordi’s Day, men presented their lovers with roses, while women gave their lovers a book in return. Today, both men and women give roses and books to their friends, family, and partners as a way to celebrate love and literature.

Three ⚡️ in 31 Seconds

⚡️In 1926, Spain declared the 23rd April, the anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, the most famous Spanish writer, as Book Day. On the 23rd of April, England has been recognizing the death of Shakespeare and celebrating literacy. Coincidentally, this coincided with the day of the feast of Sant Jordi.
