I've had to sleep at the airport many times and I'm grateful for the times when the airlines placed passengers in hotels. I would like to know why you thought that Aileen suffered from dementia? She's only 75 years old and I know many octogenarians who function very well.
Oh, I’m glad you picked up on that. I was going to spend an entire two paragraphs talking about the dementia but cut it out. She told me that and it was in the early stages. She could not retain anything short term and kept asking me the same questions every single hour. Because it was upsetting to her what was happening, our human connection really her focus on sharing and just being fully present. When I put my name in her phone I wondered if she would remember me. It took her a week to finally answer the name on the phone she could not recall. We had a good laugh about it once I could job her memory about who I was from the airport. But yes, it was not a thought I had or an assumption. She definitely does - I’ve experienced it firsthand before. It’s sad when it unfolds so slowly.
