Who You Are Matters More Than What You Do
We have to distinguish between who we are and what we do. I'm not saying that our professions shouldn't matter because they do. They definitely can matter a lot. But we need to be careful about how much weight we give our professions when evaluating our worth as people.
You are not your job.
You are not your career.
You are a person who does things, and those things can be important and valuable. But you are also a person who is important and valuable. You have worth as an individual human being, regardless of what you've accomplished professionally or what you do for work.
What say you, dear reader?

Me Power is one of four semi-finalists in the competitive BookLife Prize Nonfiction Contest. The grand prize in both the Fiction and Nonfiction Contests is $5,000, and an author profile in Publishers Weekly. There are four rounds to make it to the grand prize. My title was one of 49 books from four genres to advance to the quarterfinal round!
Last week I learned Me Power was one of 20 titles to advance to the semi-finals. All semi-finalist submissions will be critically assessed by a guest judge–a professional book editor or bestselling/award-winning author by category. The guest judges then select ONE submission from each category to advance to the finals round.
These FINAL FOUR submissions will be the winners in each of their respective categories. Each of the four finalists will also receive a blurb from the corresponding guest judge, as well as a mention in Publishers Weekly.
March Madness continues.
The finalists will be announced on April 13, 2023.
